Born in Tokyo, Yoshiharu Kimura became renowned for his vivid woodblock prints featuring birds often set against celestial backgrounds like the sun, moon, or stars. Studying under the sosaku hanga artist Tadashi Nakayama, Kimura developed a distinctive style characterized by whimsical designs with either subdued or bright colors, simplified flat patterning, and accents of metallic silver and gold.
Kimura has won numerous awards, including the prestigious prize at the Nihon Banga-in Exhibition in 1957 and another at the Kokugakei Exhibition in 1965. over the years he has held solo exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, including at the Yoseido Gallery in Tokyo, Japan.
