Shiko Imamura was a notable Japanese artist who played a key role in the development of New Nihonga, a modern reinterpretation of traditional Japanese painting. Renowned for his mastery of historical painting, Imamura’s work evolved significantly over time. The use of flat planes of color and gold leaf on silk was intended to create a mythical ambiance. Imamura’s contributions to New Nihonga and his innovative techniques are prominently featured at the Yokohama Museum of Art.
