Felstead Art is pleased to present Body Adorned II, the second edition in our exhibition series exploring how art is influenced by fashion and the body. Showcasing 24 artists and designers from both the East London Art Society and Drawing Cabaret Couture, Body Adorned II brings paintings and illustrations that encourage us to consider the role adornment plays in our social and cultural identities.

Adornment and fashion has long signified status, culture, and spirituality, yet art can seek to highlight or reshape how we view these ideas. Social movements, norms, and hierarchies can be challenged through both by how we adorn ourselves and how we then translate that into visual mediums. Beyond the external, adornment reflects identity, memory, and loss, from rituals to our response to trauma.

The idea of adornment is more than embellishment - it’s a language, and a form of expression deeply embedded in our personal and cultural narratives. Through painting and illustration, Body Adorned II examines how we use art to celebrate the way we dress and decorate the body. Each artist reveals adornment as a means of celebration and transformation. Ranging from the elegance of couture, the intimacy of body markings, and through to the use of fashion as a symbol of resistance.

In bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, the exhibition expands our understanding of how we present ourselves.
